We recently jumped on the Eurostar train from London to Paris for a weekend away.
While there, we thought we’d put Uber Paris to the test.
We were staying at a hotel near Notre Dame and on the final day needed a taxi for three people with luggage to the main train station – Gare Du Nord.
It wasn’t a particularly long distance from the hotel to the station – around 3.5kms – so we were surprised when the hotel desk receptionist quoted us 33 euros for the trip. Paris is an expensive city, with a pint of beer costing around 10 euros in touristy locations, but 33 euros for a 10 minute taxi ride seemed a little excessive.
We decided to see what was on offer on Uber, and were pleasantly surprised to find there were several cars nearby, with a pickup time estimated at 10 minutes.
Uber Paris currently has 3 Uber car options :
– Uber Berline (ie. Mercedes E Class, BMW 5 Series etc)
– UberX (ie. Mercedes C Class, Peugeot 508 etc)
– Uber Van (Mercedes Viano, VW Caravelle etc)
We ordered an UberX and were expecting a small car, so we were pleasantly surprised when a boss black Mercedes Viano Van turned up. It was literally perfect for our needs.
As can be expected from Uber, the driver was courteous and helped us with our luggage.
The drive itself was smooth, made all the better by the fact the car picked us up from our hotel door and that we didn’t need to worry about payment or tips at the end of the ride.
But here’s the best bit:
The cost came in at a mind blowing 11 euros!
That was a third of the price of a regular cab.
With prices like this, Uber is absolutely blowing away the competition. It’s no wonder that a group of Parisian taxi drivers attacked an Uber car near Charles De Gaulle airport just this week !
Uber came through with the goods once again. And the moral of the story is – whether it’s Paris, London, New York or anywhere Uber is available – if you’re not using Uber to get around, you’re missing out on a great service.
