JAMES BOND’S SWIM SHORTS
Want to be one step ahead of the crowd and ooze style, class and sophistication on the beach this summer?
Take a look at Orlebar Brown swim shorts.
Based in London and launched in 2007, Orlebar Brown offers a more tailored approach to men’s swim attire.
Their shorts are designed to be smart enough to be worn at lunch or at the resort bar, but also be worn on the beach or in the pool.
Founder Adam Brown devised the Orlebar Brown concept whilst at a friend’s 40th birthday in Rajasthan. Deciding that the women looked stunning in their summer attire, while the men looked rather average, he set about to design a classy pair of swim shorts for men.
The results are outstanding. A pair of Orlebar Brown shorts will get you noticed whether you’re kicking back on Bondi Beach, sailing Croatia on the The Yacht Week
or hitting a pool party in Vegas.
They’ve recently been worn by celebs ranging from Hugh Jackman to Jay-Z. That and their exposure in ‘Skyfall’ have seen sales rocket.
Orlebar Brown Review – Timelessly flattering with an understated simplicity
What we really like about Orlebar Brown shorts, and what differentiates them from other premium brands, is the flattering cut. Based on the traditional 17 piece pattern of a man’s suit trouser, the shorts definitely look more tailored than regular run of the mill swim shorts, and seem to sit perfectly around the hips.
In the same way that a guy in a well fitted suit will completely stand out from the rest of the crowd, the same concept applies here – it’s all about the flattering cut.
Although the majority of Orlebar Brown shorts are very simple designs (they also make some more seasonal flamboyant shorts), they still manage to stand out by looking incredibly classy.
Four of their most popular styles are shown below:
Springer – a newer design, the Springer is Orlebar Brown’s shortest short. Being so short, this design is probably more suited to swimming than hanging by the bar.
Classic Setter – This design is a real classic, and brings back the old school style – straight out of the 1950s. It’s a relatively short style and remains extremely popular. This style was worn by James Bond in Skyfall.
Bulldog – our preferred cut, these shorts are a mid-length cut and slightly longer than the Springer and the Setter. This makes them the perfect shorts for wearing to the post beach bar. The Bulldog short was in the very first Orlebar Brown collection and remains their best seller.
Dane – their longest cut, the Dane would most likely be a popular choice among our US readers. American guys seem to prefer a longer swim short.
All four styles include engraved side fasteners to adjust, quick drying fabric and come in a branded, waterproof drawstring bag.
Sizing is pretty accurate – if you wear a size 32 in regular jeans, 32 should be fine for your swim shorts.
So don’t just blend in with the crowd this summer. Turbo charge your summer wardrobe with a pair of Orlebar Brown swim shorts and you’ll be the best dressed guy on the beach, in the pool, or by the bar.
