At RLB, we’re always on the lookout for premium products that will enhance your travel experience.

One product that recently caught our eye was the Ultimate Ears Mini Boom Bluetooth speaker.

A good speaker is an essential bit of kit when you’re on the road. The key with any portable speaker is the trade-off between portability and sound quality. You want to be able to easily throw the speaker in your suitcase or perhaps even your carry-on bag, but you still want Akon’s greatest hits to sound decent.
With that in mind and having heard good things about the UE Mini Boom, we recently put the speaker to the test.
For a start, the Mini Boom looks the part. It’s small (11.1 x 6.1 x 7.6cm), sleek and well designed. It’s not a heavy speaker at 486g but it does feel solid. With a matte rubbery exterior it feels like the perfect speaker to slot into your travel bag and then pull out by the pool at your destination.
However don’t be fooled by its small dimensions. The UE Mini Boom puts out HUGE SOUND for its size. And we’re talking good quality sound. It’s not quite on par with the Bose Soundlink Mini which remains the leader in its field, but the sound is very crisp and the bass is solid. And given that you can pick up the speaker for around £67 or $99 on Amazon  – less than half the price of the Bose – we think the Mini Boom represents very good value for money indeed.
We were impressed with the ease of use. You want your speaker to pair quickly and the Mini Boom does exactly that – we took it out of the box and had our iPhone paired within seconds. Volume can be controlled either through your phone or by the buttons on top of the speaker. Bluetooth range is fantastic – UE claim the speaker can be reached 50 feet away. We didn’t push it that far but had no problems at all at around 20 feet.
Battery life is also excellent at 10 hours – so there’s no need to worry about the party dying halfway through the night.
Overall, we were very impressed with the Ultimate Ears Mini Boom given its size and sound quality. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better speaker for the price – and we certainly recommend it as a RLB certified product.
